How did you come to work for MAC?
I was doing lost of beauty assisting part time and I have always loved MAC. I use to walk past the store on Oxford Street and think about how cool the girls looked and I thought I should work there part time. That was 6 years ago and I’m still with the iconic brand. I love it, its changed my life. I built my career with them. It’s been a roller coaster of amazing make up.

Was there a lot of training involved?
To work at MAC you need to be a make up artist. MAC are amazing at training; they put in so much time and extensive training. MAC is a good cult – everyone who gets into it, love it and never want to leave.

How is Australian makeup compared to the rest of the world?
Australians are so savvy with keeping on trends. We can see what’s happening on the international catwalks instantly, as its straight up on the web. Australian women are really aware of trends that come direct from the catwalk. It filters down much more quickly through the Internet. The main thing here that is different to most places is bronzing. Australians love to look sun kissed and healthy. The brief for our fashion week is never to makes models look ghostly but to look healthy and bronzed.

What’s the hottest trend for fashion week?
Cinnamon, tan, caramel colours coming through. It’s that vibe again of everyone looking healthy because it’s the spring/summer thing this time of year, Its all very healthy and glowy with creamy complexions. Not seeing much matte anymore. There are a lot of browns – like terracotta and caramel brown lips and lots of gold tones and terra-coppery looks.

How did you prepare for fashion week?
We know what they need and they know what we need. MAC owns the back stage of fashion week. MAC is all over fashion. We train the artist’s month’s prior. we own the fashion environment in beauty. We do over 850 shows worldwide a year. This is what we do. The brand is fashion and make up. We prepare for this fashion week straight after the last fashion week.

Looks like Nicole will already be planning next years backstage beauty at RAFW as the current one comes to a close.
