"There seems to be emerging evidence that light from cell phones and computer screens, which is referred to as high energy visible (HEV) light, can in fact penetrate into the deeper levels of the skin," Dr. Justine Hextall, a dermatologist based in the UK, told the Daily Mail.

Over indulging in the limitless potential that Netflix has to offer is no longer a guilt-free pleasure. The choice to cram three seasons of Breaking Bad into one sitting can contribute to free radical damage to your skin. Dr Hextall explains how the enzyme MMP-1 breaks down skin collagen and elasticity, which causes wrinkles, fine lines, sunspots, and sagging skin - the works!

Basically, Netflix could be the culprit for why all of your skin nightmares are coming true.

Dr Hextall coined the term “Netflix face” to force people to rethink their excessive screen time, and the effect modern technology is having on our skin.

It doesn’t end there. If you’re using your digital device in the sunlight, then you’re exposing your precious skin to additional UVA and UVB light.

“This increased concentration of UV exposure along with the exposure to HEV light is prompting experts to strongly recommend covering up skin and wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen whilst using them outside," says Dr. Hextall.

To avoid unwanted UV exposure penetrating your skin cells, be sure to apply sunscreen before using your tablet. Your future self will thank you for it!
