Miss Cali's Answer to Economic Gap Question is all Kinds of Questionable

Last night Miss California was thrown, what she considered to be, a curveball when asked about the economic gap in America.

Judge Nigel Barker quizzed Nadia Mejia about bridging the gap between the rich and poor. “One of the biggest challenges facing the United States is social and economic inequality. How do we narrow the gap between the rich and poor?” He asked.

The seemingly obvious answer to the question would have been lowering taxes for those with lower socioeconomic status, however, whether it was stage fright, pressure or just lack of knowledge, Nadia didn’t come to the same conclusion.

A look of bewilderment flashed up on her face before answering, “when it comes to social and economic inequality, I think that the rich and the poor need to stop being so segregated. I think there is a middle class. I think that the rich need to …”

Nadia then stopped, seemingly unsure where to go from there. With some gentle encouragement she finished her answer.

“I think that the rich need to be able to be giving, and I think the poor need to work hard. And I think the middle class need to come together and find an in between.”

However, unperturbed that her bizarre answer has gone viral, Nadia is instead basking in her new found fame. Her father Gerado Mejia, who you may well know from his 90’s one hit wonder Rico Suave, says that Nadia plans to milk her moment for all it's worth.

Despite her questionable answer, Miss California did end up in the top five (before being losing out to Miss District of Columbia) so her quest to become infamous famous seems to be well on its way.
