Banned item found in Great Smoky Mountains, prompts advisory

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was prompted to issue an advisory after a banned item was found on the floor of the forest.

A park ranger is seen in an image posted online by the park picking up confetti through the leaves.

“Celebrations in the park can be fun, but please leave the confetti at home!” the park posted on Instagram.

“Confetti, though it seems harmless, hurts the park and planet," the post continued. "Tiny bits of plastic and paper not only litter our landscapes but threaten wildlife like birds or fish that might ingest them.

“Please be mindful during weddings, photoshoots, and other celebrations in the park; always leave no trace. Pack out all trash or toss it in a bear-proof trash can.”
