Backlash over pub’s offensive ‘naked waitress’ ad
We can all appreciate a clever sign outside a pub or café, trying to entice customers to come inside.

One pub might have gone a bit too far though, after they were faced with backlash over a ‘sexist’ sign about naked waitresses.
Read from afar, the billboard outside of the The Southern Cross pub in Middlesborough, UK, appeared to say “Naked waitresses flirt with you”.
It was only when customers got closer they realised the ad actually read: “The naked truth about our waitresses is they only flirt with you to get a better tip”.
Former waitress Jess Costello spotted the sign while driving past and took a photo in protest.
Well this is rude and completely disrespectful! Not going to stand for it. #southerncrossmbro @lovembro @MiddlesbroughCn @borodailynews pic.twitter.com/GOVFwr4tPg

“It just invites inappropriate behaviour,” Jess told the Metro.
“I’ve waitressed in the past and it’s annoying enough as it is… It was just very typical of blokes to eye you up. Some were friendly, some were inappropriate and some were over the top.”
The sign became the subject of a social media firestorm, with the pub soon taking it down.
Seriously. In this day and age? Whoever is responsible for that should be ashamed

Isn't it! Yet, of course I am called a humourless feminist for objecting. It is everywhere and so depressing!

Meanwhile, others claim it was simply a joke – and people are taking it too seriously.
I expect the pub is great for banter. Will look it out when I'm up that way
