‘Bachelorette’ Winner Devin Strader’s Shocking Arrest and Restraining Order Has Come to Light
Things we can all agree on: The Bachelorette’s vetting process needs some major improvements. In addition to putting Jenn Tran in the position of being love-bombed by a man (aka Devin Strader) who clearly wasn’t ready to commit, it’s now come to light that Devin’s previous ex had a restraining order against him and that he was arrested for trespassing in her home.
Reality Steve was the first to break this news, which has since been reported on by both Variety and Entertainment Weekly.
Per EW, the incident happened in 2017, when Devin’s ex returned returned home to find her house burglarized and a diamond necklace (which had been a gift from Devin) missing. She told police that she’d filed a restraining order against Devin, who had allegedly “come to her house banging on the door several times and screaming at her.” She further claimed that Devin made a “fire out in the street” with “what appeared to be” the restraining order.
Devin ended up being arrested and pleading guilty to criminal trespassing and property damage charges, and he received one year of unsupervised probation. But on top of this, EW obtained a Petition for Protection From Abuse, in which Devin’s ex claimed he “spit on me and threw his drink on me at a Pelicans game in front of everyone in the crowd.” She further claimed that Devin “put me in a chokehold covering my mouth.”
This is obviously extremely disturbing and—again—raises questions and concerns about ABC’s casting process. A source from the network tells EW and Variety, “We take the safety of our contestants very seriously and make every effort to conduct thorough diligence. As exhaustive as our vetting process is, this protective order did not surface in our searches.”
