“Bachelorette'”s Devin Strader Violated Ex's Alleged Previous Restraining Order, Was Arrested for Trespassing in 2017: Affidavit
Strader was recently engaged to 'Bachelorette' lead Jenn Tran before calling off their engagement
Devin Strader, a participant on the latest season of The Bachelorette and Jenn Tran's ex-fiancé, was previously arrested on allegations he burglarized his former girlfriend's home in 2017.
In a petition for protection from abuse dated March 22, 2017, and obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, Sept. 16, The Bachelorette alum was named as a defendant in the woman's claims. Days prior, on March 19, 2017, the woman told police she returned home from out of town "to find her room burglarized" and an item missing.
She added that she and Strader, now 28, "had just recently broke up," according to the affidavit. Although he lived just a couple of doors down from her, she maintained that Strader never had a key or "unaccompanied access" to her apartment when they were together or after.
The officer who completed the affidavit noted that the responding officer alleged the woman's room was the only place "that appeared to have been rifled through." A jewelry box had allegedly been ransacked, and there was "a broken bottle of perfume, a makeup tray was dumped out, and a diamond necklace was stolen during the burglary," the affidavit stated.
The necklace, which Strader allegedly bought the woman when they were dating, was the only thing reported missing from her home, per the affidavit.
Around that time, the woman filed to have Strader held in contempt of court for violating a restraining order she had in place against him "NUMEROUS times," per a rule to show cause obtained by PEOPLE.
An officer wrote in a police report that the woman alleged Devin started a fire in the street near her home and burned "what appeared to be the actual restraining order."
Later, in a rule to show cause, dated May 2, 2017, the woman alleged that after he was arrested for a DWI — PEOPLE obtained Louisiana police records that showed he had been arrested at one point for a DWI although it is unclear from the records whether the woman’s allegations relate to that exact arrest — he asked police to contact "his girlfriend" to see if she could "bail him out" despite her restraining order against him.
The woman claimed, and police records alleged, that Strader proceeded to send her mail, call her numerous times daily and show up at her door. "I cannot live my life with him continuing to contact me EVEN with a restraining order," she alleged in the rule to show cause, which was signed by her domestic violence attorney.
Strader was later charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass, ordered to pay $500, complete 30 hours of community service and attend the "Court's Effective Decision-Making School," per a proof of conditions document.
PEOPLE has reached out to Strader and ABC for comment.
A source close to The Bachelor franchise tells PEOPLE the show takes "the safety" of the contestants "very seriously" and they "make every effort to conduct thorough diligence." The source also notes that the protective order against Strader "did not surface" in any background searches despite their "exhaustive vetting process."
Reality Steve was first to report the news.
As of publication on Tuesday, Sept. 17, Strader has not publicly addressed news of his previous arrests surfacing.
Strader was recently a finalist on ABC's The Bachelorette, with season 21 ending with him and leading woman Jenn getting engaged in Hawaii. However, he later called off their engagement. Tran revealed that she found out he had been DMing other women on social media.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE this month, she recalled their relationship going downhill right after they left Hawaii despite his previous "crazy proclamations of love."
"Like I said, I can sit here and try to understand why someone would change their mind after saying all those crazy, crazy proclamations of love, but to also then sit here and disrespect the entire relationship by doing things that you know are going to hurt me, and by doing things that are just disrespectful to me, is next level of crazy," she said, in part.
