This Aussie woman met her husband on Ebay

When Monique Frankel bid on a stack of books on Ebay, little did she know that she would be walking away with a lot more than a bundle of reading material, but also with a husband.

The 40-year-old, who hails from Sydney, said she couldn’t believe the generosity of the seller, Adrian, when he agreed to save her the postage and drop the books off in person.

“It was just a couple of days after Christmas and I heard the knock on the front door,” Monique told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“We just started chatting and we didn’t stop. I think we were still there an hour later at my front door talking. There was a spark. We just clicked.”

How it all started

Two days later, Monique got a message through Ebay from Adrian, asking her if she would like to go on a date.

Monique had been single for a while and was at home being a carer for her dad, who had cancer.

While initially being scared at the prospect of getting back on the dating scene, she decided to take a leap and go on the date with Adrian.

That was the start of their epic love story, which saw Adrian propose nine months later on her 30th birthday.

Making it official

“We went out to dinner at Centrepoint Tower (Sydney Tower) for my birthday and I looked up from my desert and there he was holding a ring and he said would you marry me?” she said.

“It was a total surprise.”

Fast-forward less than a year later and Monique and Adrian walked down the aisle to say ‘I do’ in front of all their family and friends.

In an adorable nod to how their relationship started, the pair decided to have a personalised wedding cake made in the shape of a stack of books.

“One of the books said ‘How to Buy a Husband on Ebay’, another one was The Cat Digest because both of us have cats and then the top one was our names and the date of the marriage,” Monique said.

Ten-year anniversary

Ten years on, Monique admits Adrian is just as romantic now as he was the day they met.

For their ten-year anniversary, Adrian gave Monique a tin of Roses chocolates, because that milestone is usually celebrated with the gift of tin.

However, when she opened the box, it was filled with a lot more than just chocolates.

“He had stuck all of the chocolates onto a canvas piece of material that he had shaped to the tin, so when I picked it up the whole layer came with it,” she said.

“Underneath there were some more chocolates around a jewellery box and in the jewellery box was my wedding and engagement rings that had been cleaned up and also an eternity ring.”

Happy family

The eternity ring featured a blue stone, which was the fifth diamond into the band, because they had their first daughter, Calliope, five years into their relationship and it’s also her birthstone.

Three years later, they welcomed their second daughter, Tabitha, so three stones along on the band Adrian has put a ruby stone to represent her birthstone.

“Now all my friends are like you’ve ruined it for us Adrian. How are we going to beat that?” Monique said.

“He has always been romantic with me and the weird thing is it shocks the hell out of his family because he’s so quiet and withdrawn so they totally don’t expect that he’s this really romantic person.”
