Aubrey Plaza's 'SNL50' appearance is first in public since husband Jeff Baena’s death
NEW YORK — Aubrey Plaza honored her late husband, Jeff Baena, while making her first public appearance since his death Sunday during the 50th anniversary celebration for “Saturday Night Live.”
Plaza, 40, popped up for a brief moment in the lengthy “SNL50” celebration, introducing Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard for a musical performance.
It was the first time the “Parks and Recreation” star was seen in public since Baena died by suicide on Jan. 3 at age 47.
As part of her brief “SNL50” appearance, Plaza honored Baena with a quiet tribute, wearing a tie-dyed shirt as part of her outfit.
Back in 2021, Plaza revealed that she and Baena were wearing tie-dyed pajamas when they were officially married earlier that year.
“We got married on a whim, literally decided at like 5 p.m. and got married at like, 8:30,” she said on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” “Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine, so, I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us.”
Baena and Plaza started dating in 2011 and worked together throughout their careers. Baena was a writer and director known for “Life After Beth,” “Joshy” and other works.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support,” Plaza said after his death. “Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Numerous stars with “Saturday Night Live” connections were part of the “SNL50” celebration on Sunday. Plaza was famously an intern at the sketch show earlier in her career and later an NBC page.
