Baena's death was confirmed on Saturday. He was 47.
Aubrey Plaza won't be presenting at the 2025 Golden Globes as planned, following the death of her husband, the independent film director Jeff Baena.
Baena's death was confirmed to Entertainment Weekly by a representative for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday, and was ruled a suicide by hanging according to medical examiner records viewed by EW.
Plaza was announced as one of the official presenters at Sunday's ceremony on Jan. 2, alongside stars like Andrew Garfield, Viola Davis, Sharon Stone, Ke Huy Quan, and Demi Moore.
While accepting the award for Best Director - Motion Picture, The Brutalist's Brady Corbet finished his speech by saying, "My heart is with Aubrey Plaza and the family of Jeff Baena."
Reps for Plaza did not respond to EW's request for comment.
Plaza and Baena began dating in 2011, playing versions of themselves the year after in Mark Webber's The End of Love. She went on to star in Baena's 2014 directorial debut, the zombie romcom Life After Beth, as well as 2017's zany Decameron adaptation The Little Hours, and 2022's off-kilter romcom Spin Me Round, all of which he wrote and directed.
