Aubrey Plaza Breaks Silence After Husband Jeff Baena’s Tragic Death at 47
Aubrey Plaza has broken her silence following her husband Jeff Baena’s “unimaginable” passing at 47.
In a statement obtained by the Daily Mail, a representative for Plaza shared: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Baena was found dead at his Los Angeles-area home Friday morning by his assistant. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has since listed his cause of death as suicide, according to USA Today.
Emergency services were called to the home around 10:30 a.m., where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Plaza began dating the filmmaker in 2011 and the couple wed in 2021. They collaborated on a slew of Baena’s projects including Life After Beth, The Little Hours, and Baena’s last film before his death, Spin Me Round.
At the time of Spin Me Round’s release in 2022, Plaza revealed that the couple had gotten married in an Instagram post, writing: “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble 😈 excited to be reunited with the amazing @alisonbrie (who also co-wrote this one!) and @theofficialsuperstar @sordociego @lauren_weedman and so many more fun people in this. Preparati!!”
A grieving Plaza got a heartfelt shoutout during Sunday’s Golden Globes awards by director Brady Corbet after his Best Director win for The Brutalist.
Corbet ended his acceptance speech by saying: “Tonight, my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family.”
Plaza was slated to present at the annual awards show but was forced to back out at the last minute following the tragedy.
