Yahoo Lifestyle Artist celebrates town's 'unique' personality
An artist has created work to celebrate a town's "unique past, present and future" as part of its £12m regeneration.
Alan Roper's images feature on maps and banners attached to lamp-posts across Maryport, in Cumbria.
He has crafted elements of the town's architecture and industry into displays which feature an 'M' shape at the heart of the design.
It is the latest phase of a government-funded project, which includes a new arts venue, an outdoor event space, and regenerating some of the town's historic buildings.
Mr Roper's designs feature town landmarks such as Maryport lighthouse, Shipping Brow Gallery, Christ Church and the harbourside.
He said his inspiration came from seeing other images within existing ones.
"Shapes that make up one image can also make up the shape of a second image," he added.
Mark Fryer, leader of Cumberland Council, which is leading the regeneration, said: "It really brings out Maryport’s personality and history and celebrates the town’s unique past, present and future."
