Yahoo Lifestyle Army Veteran Among Good Samaritans Who Flipped Overturned Car After Crash: ‘It Happened So Fast’

A group of good Samaritans are being praised for their heroics after helping flip an overturned car following a crash in Florida.
Police said the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and Fentress in Daytona Beach.
Footage of the crash, released Wednesday by the Daytona Beach Police Department, showed a white SUV striking a gray SUV on its driver’s side, causing the second vehicle to flip and land on its passenger side.
Seconds later, a second white SUV pulled up alongside the first. A man in a white T-shirt quickly jumped out and raced toward the overturned SUV while others rushed to help.
Soon, a group of about eight bystanders formed. Among those bystanders was United States Army veteran Amy Ridgely, according to local FOX affiliate WOFL.
"It was a bit surreal," she recalled. "It happened so fast."
As soon as she saw the scene, Ridgley said her instincts kicked in from her time in the service.
“I saw an opportunity to help somebody in need, and I had to go," explained the woman, who previously completed a tour in Iraq.
The group of bystanders then worked together to flip the gray SUV back into an upright position, taking just seconds to do so, as seen in the footage.
“This is the spirit of Daytona Beach,” police said in the Facebook post.

Two people were in each vehicle, according to WOFL. No one involved in Tuesday’s crash sustained serious injuries, per Daytona Beach police.
Ridgely told WOFL she was glad to be at the right place at the right time, and hopes this story inspires others.

“There's too much hate going on right now,” the veteran said, “so the more we can help each other and be there to support each other, I think that's the best way to do it.”
The driver of the gray SUV was cited for failing to stop at a red light, according to WOFL and CBS affiliate WKMG-TV.
