Meghan and Harry reportedly left baby Archie with a nanny when they returned from Canada to the UK to announce their decision to break away from their royal duties.

The duo have stepped back as senior members of the royal family in a shocking move that seemed to have been totally unanticipated by the Queen, judging from a very terse media statement released in response.

Amidst the media storm, and reported fury within the family, The Daily Mail reports that Meghan had already slipped back to Canada – returning, as it turns out, to the pair’s baby son who was left behind.

This has raised eyebrows as some feel it suggests the Duchess was always intending to beat a hasty retreat to North America.

Contradicting reports suggest Archie was either left with Meghan’s closest friend Jessica Mulroney or a nanny while the pair returned to the UK,

The Daily Mail reports the Duchess was seen discreetly leaving the country on Thursday, flying back to Canada – where their source claims the Duchess will stay for an ‘indefinite period’.

The Duchess was in the country for only three days, further fanning the flames of rumours the pair’s move was a rogue one taken without the Queen’s approval, or possibly knowledge.

It’s now believed Prince Charles and Prince William are ‘incandescent’ with rage over the news, which reportedly hit TV screens before they heard so much as a peep.

The Queen has called an emergency meeting with the royal family. She’s believed to have set up a four-way call with Prince Charles who is currently visiting Scotland, Prince William at Kensington Palace in London and Prince Harry, who is in Windsor.

Meanwhile, London Waxwork legends Madame Tussaud’s have unexpectedly reacted to the news, removing Meghan and Harry’s statues from their original spots in the royal family line up, to a separate area.

As for news from the family themselves, none has been forthcoming since Wednesday.

Harry and Meghan cited their desire to move towards ‘financial independence’ and to split their time between the UK and North America when discussing the decision.

Other speculation suggests Instagram posts from the Royal Family may have further driven a wedge between the pair and the clan, prompting the sudden decision.

Harry remains in the UK while the world holds its breath for further word from the Royal family.
