Anne Hathaway accidentally pulled off umbilical cord

Anne Hathaway thought she had "broken" her younger brother after accidentally pulling off his umbilical cord.

The 33-year-old actress revealed she tugged away at her sibling Thomas' flexible structure, which attaches a baby to its mother in the womb, when she was just five years old and feared the worst when it snapped off, so she hid it from her mother.

She recalled: "I was like, 'Ooh my god I broke the baby.' "

The 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' star didn't make the same mistake when she gave birth to her own child, son Jonathan, two months ago, but admitted she learned to be a "decent liar" when she was pregnant.

Anne joked most of the information she divulged about her pregnancy was inaccurate while she was expecting because she didn't want to reveal when she was due to give birth to the youngster, who arrived two weeks early.

Speaking to James Corden on 'The Late Late Show', she said: "One of the things I learned about myself when I was pregnant is that I'm a decent liar.

"Because people [would] come up and [have such] good intentions but they were like, 'Do you know what you're having?' And I was like ... 'Hmm. No.'

"And then they were like, 'When [are you] due?!' and I'm like, 'May'. "I just gave all the wrong information."

The chat show presenter also joked with Anne about her Yorkshire accent in 2011 movie 'One Day', in which she portrayed fictional character Emma Morley, who is from the county.

When asked how it went, Anne replied: "I've heard not well ... it was so painful man.

"I was like, 'I'll get there', and I guess I never got there."

She also recalled one script read-through which left the crew in "complete silence".
