Andrew Garfield brought his fellow presenter Goldie Hawn to tears with his sweet tribute to her during the 2025 Oscars.

Before presenting the award for Best Animated Film on Sunday, March 2, the We Live in Time actor, 41, turned to The First Wives Club actress, 79, and thanked her for giving "my mother the most joy, the most comfort" during her life. Garfield's mother died of pancreatic cancer in 2019.

"I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Hawn," Garfield told the famed actress while he held her hand. "You've given us movies full of joy. You've lifted our spirits and you've made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again."

"I was so lucky [to] make movies... and making people laugh," she continued. "And maybe some didn't, but that's okay."

In a September 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss his role in We Live in Time, he opened up about coping with his grief and said: "I’m not special in that regard... [but] one of the most healing and reassuring, soothing moments I’ve had, is realizing that this has been the way it’s been since time immemorial.”

“Sons have been losing their mothers, daughters have been losing their mothers [since the beginning of time]," the two-time Oscar nominee continued. "We’re lucky if it’s that way around, rather than the other. And of course, countless parents lose their children in one way or another too, I can’t even imagine what that must feel like.”
