Alyson Hannigan confused about “DWTS” host Julianne Hough in “Footloose” remake: 'Were you a baby?'
Hannigan didn't realize Julianne Hough has kicked off her Sunday shoes.
Julianne Hough is holding out for a hero... and for Alyson Hannigan to see her 2011 remake of Footloose.
On Tuesday night's episode of Dancing With the Stars, Hannigan and partner Sasha Farber performed a jive to "Footloose" from the film of the same name. The song first became a hit with the original 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon. But the movie was remade in 2011, starring Hough as preacher's daughter Ariel.
When Farber referenced the fact that Hough was in Footloose, she confirmed that she was the star of the movie, prompting Hannigan to ask in disbelief, "Were you a baby?" Hannigan was evidently thinking of the 1984 film, seemingly having no idea the movie was remade. (For the record, Hough is 35 and was born in 1988, so it would have been virtually impossible for her to appear in the original film, even as a baby).
Hough played the moment off, referencing the fact that she was in her early twenties when she made the film and agreeing, "I was a baby."
The remake was met with mixed reviews and has not endured as a classic in the last decade and change. However, EW critic Lisa Schwarzbaum gave the 2011 film an A- and called it a "thoroughly winning remake."
To be fair, Hannigan was deep in production on sitcom How I Met Your Mother in 2011 (the series ran from 2005 to 2014) and likely wasn't keeping close tabs on the new movie release calendar.
But Hannigan will need to kick off more than just her Sunday shoes to live down the mistake.
Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, and streams the following day on Hulu.
