The retired soccer star said she's "not yet prepared to make a formal statement" but felt "compelled" to address the situation to "prevent further distortion from the truth"
Harris said she felt like she "wasn't a priority" to Krieger on the Nov. 25 podcast
Retired soccer star Ali Krieger has spoken out about her divorce from Ashlyn Harris.
After Harris, 39, spoke candidly about the breakup on a Nov. 25 podcast — alleging that she and Krieger, 40, split due to a lack of intimacy and feeling like she "wasn't a priority" — Krieger released a short statement on Instagram.
"I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support I’ve received this last year," Krieger wrote in a post on Dec. 3. "However, amidst this warmth, I’ve also had to confront a wave of dishonesty and misinformation regarding my marriage and personal life," she continued.
Krieger said that while she's "not yet prepared to make a formal statement" to the public, she feels "compelled to address this currently to prevent further distortion of the truth."
The NWSL champ — who revealed on Nov. 28 that she's been dating Scottish soccer player Jen Beattie — promised to "share more" when her "heart feels ready," and said her priority "remains the protection and well-being of my children," referring to Sloane, 3, and Ocean, 2, who she shares with Harris.
"In this vulnerable time, I humbly ask for privacy and understanding from all involved, as I grapple with the profound changes in my personal life," Krieger said in her post.

The retired athlete's brother, Kyle Krieger — who previously said his sister was "blindsided" by the split from Harris in October 2023 — commented on the post, writing, "love you punkin. even though you've said very little — everyone knows the truth."

On the Nov. 25 episode of the Naked Sports podcast, Harris said she became "very, very good at disassociating" toward the end of her marriage to Krieger.
"And that's what my therapist knew right away — it was my ability to sit and suffer...my ability to serve other people before my own wants and needs, which I genuinely think probably kept me in that marriage for as long as it did," Harris said.
The former goalkeeper claimed she made several attempts to save the relationship — including suggesting they open their marriage. "I started trying all these things, like, let's do an open marriage."

She went on to suggest that her relationship with Krieger — whom she began dating while they were teammates for the NWSL's N.Y. Gotham — struggled due to a lack of intimacy and lacking common interests after soccer. "I think she loved the game so much and all she knew was how to sacrifice her life for the game," Harris said on the podcast.
"Then when you add children, which is a whole different layer, I just felt like I wasn't a priority."
Shortly after her divorce from Krieger, Harris went public with her relationship with actress Sophia Bush. Bush later confirmed their relationship status in a conversation with Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Samantha Barry, in April 2024. The actress said that while their relationship was pushed into the public eye “without my consent,” she had done a lot of work to find peace.
