'Best ever!': Mum’s genius Aldi shopping trolley hack

A mum’s genius trick to avoid having to use — then, often, lose — a gold coin to unlock an Aldi trolley has earned high praise on social media. One impressed Facebook user even dubbed it, “Best life hack ever!”

“This is an old hack of mine, if you ever find yourself without a gold coin or a token, look no further then a suitable key on your key ring, you’re welcome,” she wrote in a Facebook group.

The mum also shared a snap of her hack in use, showing a standard trolley from the German grocery giant with the head of a silver key inserted into the coin slot to release the chain locking it to the trolley in front.

“This is priceless,” praised one Facebook user.

“Knowing my luck, the key would get stuck and I’d just look like a bit idiot haha,” joked one.

Several savvy shoppers offered up their alternatives to gold coins and keys.

“You can get a trolley key off eBay. You don’t have to leave it in the trolley while you shop either,” said one.

“A 5c piece opens the Big W trolleys,” revealed another.

But by far the most creative suggestion has to be the one involving tinned meat.

“I use this opener on the canned corn beef works wonders and it doesn't stay in the trolley once you have unlocked it and I put it on my keys,” they wrote.
