Airbnb, Paramount Pictures team up on free 'Gladiator II'-themed Colosseum experience

Airbnb is teaming up with Paramount Pictures ahead of the release of "Gladiator II" to offer an experience where some visitors will be able to go inside the Colosseum after dark for a special experience at a cost of $0.

“Warriors will have the opportunity to step inside the historic arena once traversed by victorious fighters, suit up in historically accurate armor, and put their skills to the test to determine their fate in battle," Airbnb said in a press release.

This is a private Airbnb Icon experience, not an overnight stay, the company clarified, and guests will have the Colosseum all to themselves.

Airbnb Icons are experiences by the company that are hosted by "icons" across music, film, TV, sports, arts and more. Instead of a traditional house stay, they are more about the experience and less about the house.

Information on the Airbnb Colosseum Icon will launch Wednesday morning. Booking requests for the experience will launch Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. ET.

Here’s what to know about the Airbnb Colosseum experience.

What is the Airbnb Colosseum experience?

In a press release, Airbnb said guests who book the Colosseum experience will experience the following:

Meet a master of ceremonies outside the Colosseum after sunset
Descend into the hypogeum, the underground chambers and "prepare for battle," donning unique armor depending on their gladiator type
Travel the Colosseum's torch-lit passageways
"Train in the art of gladiator combat" and face off against fellow guests

How much is the Airbnb Colosseum experience?

Starting Nov. 27, people can request to book one of two, three-hour experiences for up to 16 guests at a time, all at a cost of $0. But there is one catch: Transportation to and from Rome must be covered by the traveler.

The request period closes Dec. 9 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
