Airbnb lists the house from “Up”, the X-Mansion, Prince's “Purple Rain” house, and more
A new Icon category also includes a night out with Kevin Hart and a living room performance from Doja Cat.
Airbnb is taking fans inside iconic films.
The service just unveiled a new category called Icons, allowing travelers to step inside favorite films, get access to previously off-limits tourist destinations, and partake in once-in-a-lifetime interactions with celebrity hosts. The initial launch includes overnight stays in the house from Up, a trip inside the X-Manson from X-Men '97, a hangout with Kevin Hart, and an intimate performance from Doja Cat.
The new category arrives with 11 experiences that travelers couldn't access until now. It includes a recreation of the house from Up, constructed in Abiquiu, N.M. It's a faithful rendering of Carl Fredricksen's home, complete with more than 8,000 balloons and a crane that lifts the house into the air. Though, it will set guests down in Abiquiu and not Paradise Falls.
Another highlight is the detail-rich X-Mansion, a cartoonish rendering of Charles Xavier's home for young mutants located in Westchester, N.Y., complete with a severed Sentinel head on the front lawn. Its rooms are styled after iconic X-Men characters like Jubilee and Wolverine. It looks loaded with Easter eggs for the superfan who gets to spend a day living like a mutant prodigy.
Airbnb is also offering a stay in Prince's Purple Rain house in Minneapolis, Minn., a night in the headquarters from Inside Out (details on this are under wraps until closer to the June release of Inside Out 2), and a trip to stay with Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor at her family home in Chennai, India.
Not all of the listings are tied to movies. Airbnb's launch also includes stays at the Ferarri Museum in Italy, the clock room of Paris' Musée d'Orsay, and a week traveling with reggaeton artist Feid aboard his lavish tour bus.
Its celebrity experiences also include hanging at the members-only Coramino Live Lounge with Kevin Hart, having a "living room session" with Doja Cat, and an overnight gaming trip to Milan, Italy, with social media celebrity and gamer Khaby Lame.
The service says most of the Icon experiences are free, and all are under $100 per person, though they will only be available in an extremely limited quantity. The site will have a countdown display that shows when each listing goes live — the Up, X-Men, and Khaby Lame ones go live May 1, others at a later date — and the selected few will get a "digital golden ticket" to their chosen event. While these are basically promotional events rather than regularly available rentals, the announcement promises that more than 4,000 tickets to its Icon category events will be given out in 2024.
