8 best Election Day 2024 distractions to stay sane while waiting for the results
Hey, look: maybe you're one of those people who just wants to stay glued to the TV and social media on Tuesday to keep up with the latest on the 2024 presidential election. And that's cool! You do you!
Or... maybe you're like some of us who want all the distractions they can get as we await the results. If so, that's what we're here to do.
We asked around the For The Win staff for their recommendations, and they came back with suggestions that ranged from TV shows to stream, sports to watch, games to play or just plain old touching grass.
Here's what they all came up with:
1. Go play some video games!
Video games are my ultimate comfort. The options are nearly limitless for what kind of experience you want. Do you want to live out your cozy farming dreams? Try Stardew Valley, which had yet another big update recently. Are you looking for a long story RPG to sink your teeth into? Dragon Age: The Veilguard is my current go-to for fantasy fun. Getting lost in your own virtual world is the best way to shake off the dread of real life. -- Mary Clarke
2. Go watch some college hoops!
Um, it's college basketball season. HELLO. I would much rather watch people get dunked on, their ankles taken and crossed up. That's my kind of carrying on. Please and thank you. -- Meghan L. Hall
3. Astro Bot is a fun game
Most TV sucks now and watching TV also lets you keep idle hands. So, do you like robots that make cutesy little sounds? Do you like Sony's gallery of iconic characters (well, most of them)? Then you should zone out and play Astro Bot tonight, in my humble opinion. Not like … that's my plan or anything. (Can't confirm.) -- Robert Zeglinski
4. Nobody Wants This is awesome
Nobody Wants This is exactly the kind of thing to watch on a night like this. A romantic comedy that's actually laugh-out-loud funny with some "will they won't they" drama. Go on Netflix, hit play and enjoy. -- Charles Curtis
5. Let's go gambling!
Bet $5 on something and watch that. You have college football, basketball, NHL and even some LigaMX soccer among your late night options. The risk of losing (or winning!) a little money should be distracting enough. -- Prince Grimes
6. Touch grass
I actually wouldn't recommend watching anything today. I think it's honestly a perfect time for you to go outside for a bit. Go for a run today. Take a walk. Get some sun in if you can. We get way too much screen time as is. And a lot of us will probably be doom-scrolling tonight (please don't do that!!!!). If you can go outside today, then do that. -- Mike Sykes
7. The first College Football Playoff rankings are here
Watch the first College Football Playoff rankings drop when ESPN will turn what could have been an email into a one-hour show. Your team will be ranked lower than you want, lower than you think it deserves. Focus on how mad you are about that. Troll messages boards and commiserate. Pour yourself into this week's schedule and figure out what needs to happen for your team to rise. Your team isn't in the mix? That's OK, just watch everyone else freak out over rankings that will change several more times before they're final. Before you know it, you'll have wasted several hours distracting yourself from impatiently waiting. -- Michelle Martinelli
8. MACtion!
Tuesday Night MACtion! C'mon folks. We just spent the last six months hearing about how important the Rust Belt was going to be on November, 5th. Now back up those words by watching Bowling Green continue its push for bowl eligibility against Central Michigan! -- Blake Schuster
