This 5-Ingredient Appetizer Is ‘Pure Magic’ and Guaranteed To Disappear at Parties

Take a freezer staple to a whole new level.

The TikTok algorithm knows me well. As a food writer, my "For You" page is always surfacing clips of food hacks and recipes, and I could cook for an entire year and still not get through all the clips I’ve saved. From Italian Nachos to Tennessee Onions, I credit TikTok with helping me discover some of my favorite new recipes of the past year.

The app has even taught me amazing hacks, like how to dress up boxed macaroni and cheese with just one ingredient. And, I still fold my quesadillas in quarters thanks to TikTok. Now, there’s a new hack that takes one of my favorite heat-and-eat snacks to a whole new level.

How to Make the TikTok Garlic-Parmesan Pizza Rolls

Sure, frozen pizza rolls are delicious on their own—crisp little pockets of pizza-flavored goodness like mozzarella, pepperoni, and marinara sauce. But hear me out: What if you could take plain, old frozen pizza rolls and turn them into a restaurant-quality appetizer using only five ingredients and a few minutes in the kitchen?

TikToker users have been sharing video after video of their take on Garlic-Parmesan Pizza Rolls, a new food trend that’s way easier than it sounds. Making this viral snack is easy: Simply air fry or bake some pizza rolls according to the package instructions, then pan fry them in melted butter, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Toss them with some grated Parmesan cheese, and voila: You’ve got an elevated version of a childhood classic.

Totino’s, arguably the most iconic brand of pizza rolls, even got in on this trend, sharing its own TikTok recipe for the jazzed-up pizza rolls. Instead of sautéing them in a pan, though, the brand simply tosses the rolls in garlic butter to makes things even easier. Totino’s still adds plenty of parm, but uses basil as their spice of choice instead of red pepper flakes, proving that the possibilities are endless for this pizza-inspired flavor combo.

My Review of the Viral Garlic-Parmesan Pizza Rolls

I tried these little, air-fried bites of deliciousness with my family and was blown away by the difference in taste between plain, air-fried pizza rolls and garlic butter-tossed ones. This updated version of pizza rolls tastes crispier, flakier, and way more buttery—in a good way. And, the flavors of garlic, Parmesan cheese, and lightly spicy red pepper flakes only add to the goodness.

In fact, I think our TikTok-inspired pizza rolls were better heated in the center, with all of the pizza fillings even more warm and gooey than usual. Perhaps sautéing the pizza rolls for a quick moment in hot, melted butter helps the fillings warm more evenly? However it happens, it’s pure magic.

These dressed-up pizza rolls would be perfect for an appetizer at a party or even as a quick dinner on a night when you’re tired of holiday cooking and need something easy to nosh on. Serve them hot from the pan, with extra marinara sauce for dipping—you won’t regret it.
