It’s official—we are fully into 2024, and if your home looks like it needs an upgrade, there’s never been a better time than now to do it. Looking for the latest design inspo? There are lots of great ideas on TikTok. The social media platform is chock-full of visuals, tips, and hacks, whether you’re renovating a kitchen, designing a bedroom, or just want to make a few quick upgrades.

Here are five 2024 design trends we're seeing on TikTok and absolutely love.

Statement Lighting

Why choose boring lighting when you can make a statement? Statement lighting is one of the biggest design trends in 2024 so far, and we predict it isn’t going anywhere. Installing a statement fixture can make a major design impact in an otherwise neutral room.

It’s pretty easy to hop on board this trend. There are all sorts of statement fixtures available in a range of prices, materials, and styles. It’s also renter-friendly, as long as you switch back to your previous fixture before you leave.

There are so many different ways to go about this. You can add sconces to your bedroom walls instead of lamps on the nightstand. Get rid of that basic flush mount in your hallway and swap it out for a bold brass fixture. You can even incorporate this trend in your bathroom, like a statement chandelier over a standalone tub.

Herringbone Floors

Say so long to those simple slats and go with herringbone flooring instead. This is a gorgeous addition to any home, particularly in more traditional and contemporary spaces. It's also a fantastic way to showcase the natural beauty and variations of hardwood, although you can opt for laminate or LVP if hardwoods aren’t in your budget.

Keep in mind that while this look is popular on TikTok, it’s hardly a flash in the pan. So, if you're looking to invest in new flooring for the long term, you really can’t go wrong with the timeless look of herringbone.

Upgraded Kitchen Islands

Renovating your kitchen this year? Why not take your island to the next level? One of the biggest trends people are talking about on TikTok is a larger island that’s not just for cooking but also large enough for communal seating. So, don’t be afraid to expand that kitchen island a few extra feet, allowing everyone to enjoy more comfortable and casual family meals.

Color Drenching

While we certainly saw a lot of color drenching in 2023, this trend is set to become even more popular in 2024. It’s a very easy trend to incorporate into a living room or bedroom. Pick one color that you love (because you’re going to use a lot of it) and use it in nearly every element of the room, including paint, furniture, decor, and accessories. We will see this trend come to life with dark, moody hues in the coming year.

Next-Level Wallpaper

Wallpaper has been a major trend in recent years, and it’s only going to become more popular in 2024. It is being used in new places in the home, beyond the bedroom and home office, such as the kitchen. It looks particularly good behind open shelves, adding a pop of color.  Wallpaper is also being used to bring color to breakfast nooks.

Another place we’ll see wallpaper is bathrooms, not just powder rooms. Keep in mind that traditionally pasted wallpapers are most suitable for bathrooms because peel-and-stick papers may come off due to heat and moisture.

Lastly, black and white patterned wallpapers are also trending on the platform. These are a great way to add texture to monochromatic rooms. There’s also something very nostalgic and '90s vintage about the aesthetic.
