Excuse Me While I Go On A Deep Dive About Simone Biles's Husband, Jonathan Owens

Through the highs and lows of being a star athlete, Jonathan Owens has remained a rock in Simone Biles's career. The couple first got together in 2020 and have blossomed into the sports world's IT couple.

Since then, Owens has been riding for Biles and her success in public and behind closed doors. Presently, Biles is heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics to represent Team USA. She shared some photos on her Instagram Story this week, writing, "See you in Paris baby," the Daily Mail reports.

Owens stood behind Biles during one of the most trying times of her career: the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Simone Biles opened up about struggling with her mental health and facing a phenomenon called "the twisties," where a gymnast loses a sense of where they are in the air and how they'll land. Ultimately, she made the decision to pull out of the majority of team and individual events. Though it created much scrutiny, Jonathan Owens stood beside her and held her down during that period.

Simone Biles's star power certainly eclipses that of her husband's, but that's not to take away from what he does.

Though the couple has graced several red carpet events, and hasn't shied away from making their relationship known to the world, Owens's prominence as a public figure pales against Simone Biles's successes. However, that isn't to say he isn't accomplished in his own right. Owens is currently the safety for the Chicago Bears and has played professionally in the NFL for six years, but his journey hasn't gone without hardships. Perhaps, in many ways, that's why he and his wife have a deep understanding of each other's struggles and successes in the highly competitive field of sports.

Here's everything to know about Owens.

1.Born July 22, 1995, in St. Louis, Missouri, Owens was raised by Arthurine Cannon and her husband, Nathaniel Cannon, whom Jonathan has called his dad since he was 5 years old, according to Go Long TD. Owens credits his mother's resilience and determination for instilling strong values in him as a child. His website states that she also suffered from the muscle disease polymyositis.

2.Jonathan Owens isn't shy about showing off his family on Instagram, including his older sister, Chanel Bady. The two have a tight relationship, and she often appears on Owens' Instagram page, along with her son and Jonathan's nephew. Needless to say, he's a family man.

3.Owens attended the Christian Brothers College High School where he began his football journey. Having shown his exceptional skills on the field, he eventually got accepted at Missouri Western State University where he continued to play football.

4.On his website, he credits his mother with instilling the value of education in him at a young age. He thrived in academics throughout high school and, evidently, into college, where he frequently appeared on the Dean's List and Academic Honor Roll.

5.His hard work and determination were put to the test once he suffered an injury before his senior year. Fortunately, Missouri Western didn't pull his scholarship.

However, boarding wasn't free so he had two options: pay $1,200 to reside on campus or volunteer to clean the dorms. He told Go Long TD that he opted to volunteer, which proved to be a great opportunity, especially since the Kansas City Chiefs held training camp at the campus. Many of the players would leave behind valuables that they'd often purchase for the sole purpose of training camp (i.e. TVs).

6.It was a bittersweet moment, though. He achieved great heights as a rookie by getting drafted into the league, though things didn't pan out for him the way he had planned. A calf injury took him out during a practice drill, thwarting his plans to show and prove in his rookie year.

7.But as the Cardinals' coaches and executives understood, it was a minor setback for a major comeback. That's exactly what Owens pulled off when he returned in 2019.

8.Afterward, he pivoted to the Green Bay Packers and the Houston Texans. While he showcased his potential, it wasn't until 2024 that he landed a more significant contract. In March, he signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears reportedly amounting to $4.5 million.

9.But in the midst of his bounceback, he found love in Simone Biles. The two first crossed paths in 2019 when Biles was invited to lead the Houston Texans out of the tunnel at their home game. A photo of her accompanying the team includes a cameo from her future husband. However, the two didn't get acquainted until the following year.

10.The two met via the celebrity dating app Raya in 2020 and unexpectedly, she slid into the DMs.

11.The romance quickly blossomed, from starting to date in March 2020 to going Instagram official in August. The pandemic may have slowed down their professional aspirations, but it became a perfect opportunity for them to bond.

12.Outside of their shared background in sports, their dogs are really to thank for bringing them together. Biles explained in an interview with Access Hollywood that they would hang out every weekend. Their dogs would play with each other while the two started falling in love.

13.When the pandemic pushed back the Olympics, she got the opportunity to support his games in person. And obviously, he reciprocated that support when she pulled out of team and individual events at the 2021 Olympics to prioritize her mental health.

14.Fast forward to 2022, Owens popped the question. Just a day after Valentine's Day, the couple revealed that they were engaged. Describing it as "the easiest yes," she wrote on Instagram, "I can't wait to spend forever & ever with you, you're everything I dreamed of and more! let's get married FIANCÉ 💍🥺🥲🤎 @jowens_3."

15.In April 2023, the two exchanged vows through two wedding ceremonies. After obtaining a marriage license in the state of Texas, they held a small ceremony at City Hall. Then, they flew out to Cabo where they had a 144-guest wedding that Biles described as "beautiful and dreamy."

16.He's also an avid fan of traveling alongside his wife. The two have been to Belize (where Simone holds citizenship), Cabo, and other coastal destinations.

17.But, while he's living a rather luxurious life as a professional athlete and the husband of an Olympic gold medalist, he prefers a rather lowkey lifestyle.

18.Owens will be attending the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer in support of Biles.

So, while he may have sent Twitter/X into a frenzy when he described himself as the "catch," Simone Biles certainly would agree.
