This 1-Ingredient Snack Is an Instant Upgrade for Any Cheese Board
It’s also a tasty substitute for crackers with soup.
Countless cheese boards will grace our tables between now and New Year’s Day. It’s a must-serve appetizer at cocktail parties, holiday dinners, Friendsgiving, or a night in when you’re relaxing from all the festivities.
If you’re making a classic cheese board, you’ll probably have Cheddar, some Gouda, maybe some blue cheese, and to fancy it up a bit, a wedge or round of Brie.
This soft, creamy, sometimes runny cow’s milk cheese has a bloomy rind around its edges. That rind is perfectly edible, but many people prefer not to eat it because they don’t know it’s edible or because they don’t enjoy the texture.
If you’re one of those who don’t enjoy the texture, you’re in luck. There’s a way to change that texture and turn the rind from Brie into a crispy, tasty snack.
How to Make Brie Rind Crisps
Brie rinds often go in the trash or down the garbage disposal, but Instagram’s Planet Food shared another idea for them, with one commenter saying, ”If this doesn’t convince u to use ur air fryer nothing will.”
Whether your air fryer works hard every week or collects dust in the back of a cabinet, you’ll want to plug it in the next time you serve Brie. After cutting off the rind, cut it into strips and make Brie rind crisps.
Here’s what Planet Food says to do:
Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).
Spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray.
Place rind strips in the basket and season with salt and pepper.
Air-fry for 8 to 10 minutes, or until rinds become crispy and golden.
Serve rinds with dip such as cranberry sauce, honey, or chili jam.
You can serve the crispy rinds as part of the cheese tray or as a separate snack— it’s up to you.
If you like the idea of finding a use for the cheese rinds, try making snacks from Parmesan rinds or using them to flavor soups, beans, and more.
