Nicole Kidman's Father Dies In Tragic Accident

Dr. Antony Kidman, father of Nicole Kidman and Antonia Kidman, has died following a tragic accident in a Singapore hotel, a rep for Nicole confirmed alongside the doctor's university.

According to reports, Dr. Kidman, a clinical psychologist at the Royal North Shore Hospital and a director of health psychology at the University of Technology Sydney, was visiting Nicole's sister, Antonia Kidman, and her six children in Singapore when the accident occurred on Friday, September 12.

It is believed that Dr Kidman tragic fall in his Singapore hotel. Kidman's wife, Janelle, was not in Singapore at the time, and Nicole, who is currently in America, has been told of his death.

Dr Kidman, who was in his 70s, regularly visited his younger daughter in Singapore to help look after her 6 kids.

“This is devastating news,” a family friend tells WHO. “Antony is incredibly close to both Nicole and Antonia. He was a rock to them all.”

Opening up about her bond with her dad to the Daily Mail in 2009 , Nicole said she ignored his advice when she was younger, favouring the views of her mother, Janelle, and her younger sister.

"Dad's a psychiatrist, and when I was younger he was always trying to give me advice that I wouldn't listen to," Kidman said "Now that I'm older, I really value his insight and I realise how special my father is."

Nicole has often sited Dr Kidman as being the person who helped her heal following her 2001 split from Tom Cruise.

"When my marriage fell apart, I needed to reach out to my dad. He was wonderful," she said. "He stood by me, comforted me; showed me, at a time when I really needed to see it, the way a man can be strong, dignified and loving.

"I'm very grateful that I had such a good father, to see me through that time, because it put me in good stead for trusting again the next time I fell in love.”

Dr Kidman was awarded an Order of Australia medal in January, 2005, for his services to mental health.

“Antony was hugely respected in his field and incredibly knowledgable about art, politics and history; a fascinating person to talk to,” said the family friend.

Janelle and Antony celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last December in Sydney, surrounded by their family and friends.
