Lea's ode to Cory: The most retweeted tweet of 2013

This year, fans across the entire world grieved after news of the shock death of one of Hollywood's most promising young actors, Cory Monteith, became known.

And if the global breadth of Monteith's fan base wasn't clear from hit show Glee's widespread international success, it is certainly clear now after Twitter announced its most retweeted tweet - known as The Golden Tweet - of 2013.

Lea Michele's first tweet publicly acknowledging her boyfriend's death was retweeted 408,000 times from users in 133 countries.

The tweet, posted by Michele on July 29th, read:

"Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart."

Monteith was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver on July 13th. He died from 'mixed drug toxicity' as a result of a deadly overdose of heroin and alcohol.

Michele opened up further about her 31-year-old boyfriend's death in the December issue of US Elle magazine:

"I never thought I would be in this position in my whole life. Now that I am in this position, you can choose to rise, and that’s what I’m going to try to do.

"I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people."

The two other Golden Tweets of 2013 also came from Hollywood, with the second most retweeted tweet announcing Paul Walker's tragic shock death, and the third coming from Niall from One Direction:
