A t-shirt emblazoned with a controversial quote by supermodel Kate Moss has been pulled from shelves.

Designed by Christopher Lee Sauve, the item in question features a picture of a nutritional box with the words 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'.

After receiving numerous complaints about the t-shirt via social media, Canadian retailer Hudson's Bay company made the decision to remove the item from online and stores immediately.

"We truly value our relationship with our customers and take their concerns seriously and we recognise that many took offence to the item," stated the company. "In this particular instance, while we respect the designer's art, due to the overwhelming response and the sensitivity of the matter, we made the decision to promptly remove the T-shirts from our stores and from thebay.com."

Sauve said his design was not meant to be taken seriously, and was actually pointing out the absurdity of fashion.

"Fashion is created to be either celebrated, adored, or hated and deplored, quite like the industry itself. I fully understand and comprehend the severity of an eating disorder and I do not condone celebrating such pain. My sincerest apologies to anyone that I have offended with my designs. I believe wholeheartedly in my work, however, and I can't apologise for that."

Moss said the controversial quote in 2009 during an interview with WWD when she was asked what mottos she lived by.

The supermodel was criticised for the insensitive comment at the time, with the founder of 'Say No To Size Zero' accusing her of glamourising the disturbing trend.

"Kate Moss's comments are likely to cause many more eating disorders," stated Katie Brown.
