Celebrities One Day, Parents The Next?

She walked the red carpet as a Golden Globes nominee last night and this morning, she's had a baby. Has Nicole Kidman just heralded a new age of celebrity pregnancies?

Sure, Sarah Jessica Parker and her twins paved the way for A-list surrogacies, while Elton John and Neil Patrick Harris followed, but Kidman's announcement today of the birth of daughter Faith Margaret Kidman Urban in December via "gestational carrier" is an unprecedented surprise when it comes to the coverage of famous buns in the oven.

Completely undercutting the celebrity mags, there was no bump watch, no hysterical stalking of the surrogate (as per the SJP pregnancy) and an A-list baby kept under wraps for a full three weeks. Instead, she was born under a veil of secrecy - the celebrity couple allegedly used cloak-and-dagger techniques like booking out a floor of the hospital and visiting their new daughter via a service elevator to ensure they controlled how the world heard the news.

It's not the first time the words "Kidman" and "surrogate" have been uttered in the same sentence. Ridiculous rumours that she faked her pregnancy with first daughter Sunday Rose had the internet buzzing.

Kidman and husband Keith Urban have thanked their surrogate for the "gift" of baby Faith - their biological daughter.

Congratulations to the happy couple.
