Boys will be girls

He’s the male model of the moment, starring in Marc Jacobs' new campaign and gracing the cover of top fashion magazines but Andrej Pejic is not your typical bloke. The Australian model closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s Couture show dressed as a beautiful bride.

With high cheekbones and a tiny frame the androgynous model, who’s been nicknamed ‘James Blond’, looked striking in a see-through bridal dress complete with a Mohawk and black veil.

It’s no surprise that Gaultier, known as the ‘enfant terrible’ of the fashion world, would choose a male model to close his womenswear collection. Gaultier also picked Pejic to star in his controversial spring/summer campaign, where the 19-year-old is photographed in an intimate pose with supermodel Karolina Kurkova.

Since leaving his Melbourne home, Pejic has modelled for top fashion magazines and on the runways of Paul Smith, John Galliano and Marc Jacobs. The rising star likes pushing the gender boundaries, “I may as well push it to the limits. I wouldn’t dress this way if I didn’t have fun with it.”
