Attention, Hot Women: Men Will Never Trust You
Well here’s some thoroughly confusing and annoying information.
According to a new study, women must now choose between two person-defining adjectives they’d prefer to be: Hot, or honest. And yes - they are mutually exclusive.
Researchers at the University of Connecticut found that, when presented with enhanced (makeup and styled hair, not necessarily hardcore retouching) and non-enhanced photos of the same women, straight men felt that the “enhanced” women were more attractive, yet less trustworthy.
Conversely, when women were given similar photos of a man, they felt that the more attractive he was, the more trustworthy he would be. In other words, good looking guys are perfect. But good looking girls? Better watch out!

The study’s author, Rory Gloin, tried to explain the findings this way: “The guys were very honest in their assessment of the female. They say I do find her more attractive and I do find her less trustworthy and I am OK with it.” He continued, “Males are so used to seeing women who have been Photoshopped and edited [in society] and they are just skeptical that maybe she’s not really that good looking.”

Are we the only ones confused? The study is saying that the best way for a woman to attract a partner is to look good, but then, once he’s into her, she should stop wearing makeup and doing her hair? Or, a woman can choose to never wear makeup or do her hair, with the understanding that she’ll never date again? Or… a woman can continue to do herself up, but only if she over-compensates on the honesty thing by, like, proving that she’s cool with doing trust falls? Because frankly, those are terrifying.

Forget dating - just thinking about dating (and trust falls—eesh!) is getting exhausting. And you know what doesn’t judge the integrity of your character by how pretty you are? Netflix. And puppies. And the treadmill. And ice cream sundaes. We’ll be sticking to those for now… or at least ‘til the next study comes along.
