It's true - after eight years of dating, Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen are finally husband and wife, a close friend of the couple's has confirmed.

Shunning an extravagant celebrity wedding in favour of a traditional Jewish ceremony in Paris, the notoriously private couple invited just six guests to attend their big day on March 15.

"I did it - we're married!" Fisher, 34, told friends in an email the following day. "It was the absolute best day of my life and in so many beautiful moments I missed you all so much. I thought of you as everything was happening, but Sacha and I wanted no fuss – just us!"

The star couple, who have a 2-year-old daughter, Olive, spent the week at the Hotel Ritz in Paris, and were photographed walking around the nearby Place Vendome wearing matching berets. In a bid to keep the intimate ceremony under wraps, even the bride and groom's family members were given "very little notice" ahead of the nuptials, confirms the source.

West Australian-raised Fisher and Cambridge-educated Baron Cohen, 38, have been inseparable since meeting at a party in Sydney in 2002. After becoming engaged in 2004, Fisher converted to Judaism for her fiance, best known for his spoof characters Ali G, Borat and Bruno. Yet despite their obvious affection - "Sacha makes me laugh more than anyone, which is why I'm marrying him," the Wedding Crashers actress said in 2005 — the pair have postponed their wedding several times over the years.

Perhaps due to their desire to keep the special event shrouded in secrecy: "It's very important to me to have a beautiful ritual celebrated with my family and friends," Fisher said in 2009. "And when you are in the public eye, to keep that private and to make it happen without it being really visible is really difficult."
