Do You Have Any Family Members Who Have Drastically Changed Their Political Opinions? What Happened?
It feels like the political scene, especially in America, is constantly shifting and evolving. Many folks have undergone significant belief changes, particularly in recent years. Some people have also watched their loved ones adopt a new set of beliefs, for better or worse.
Perhaps you grew up with fairly Republican parents who now vote blue through and through because of Trump. Though they previously supported politicians like John McCain and Mitt Romney, they quickly became appalled by Trump's hateful rhetoric. They started really paying attention to policy rather than sensational headlines, and they've become more liberal than conservative.
Maybe your aunt and uncle fell down the QAnon rabbit hole a couple of years back and have since cut off most of the family. They are consumed by conspiracy theories and spend most of their time writing and sharing radical posts online.
Or, perhaps your conservative, religious grandmother used to be uncomfortable with anything LGBTQ-related and sometimes repeated some of the insensitive comments she heard at church. After your cousin came out as gay, you watched your grandma start to reflect on her beliefs and work to unlearn some of the prejudice she was taught. Though you wish she could've been more accepting before she felt 'directly impacted,' you are relieved to see her come around and are proud of her progress. She even switched churches to attend a congregation with more progressive views.
