JoJo Siwa stays silent on her makeup line's asbestos recall
There are several essential questions we should all be asking ourselves when buying makeup.
Does it match my skin tone?
Is it organic?
Has it got asbestos in it?
Yep, you might balk at the last one but it’s something we should all add to our checklists because it’s a real threat, and Jo Jo Silva of all people is at the heart of the drama.
JoJo Siwa’s makeup line with Claire’s cosmetics has been recalled after testing positive to the cancerous mineral, joining US brand Beauty Plus Cosmetic.
The US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) issued an alert via Twitter warning consumers of the dangerous substance found in the products on June 6th, prompting horrified reactions from consumers.

Claire’s Cosmetics released a statement to USA Today.
"Claire's stands behind the safety of this item and all other Claire's cosmetic items, as such small trace amounts are considered acceptable under European and Canadian cosmetic safety regulations,” the statement read.
Jo Jo is best known as the 16 year-old Nickelodeon and YouTube pop star, with a penchant for rainbows and unicorns.
The teen’s quirky style is a favourite among little girls who make up the bulk of her fan base.
With almost 10 million subscriber’s on YouTube, and bubblegum dance anthems that rack up hundreds of millions of views, the pink-loving pop star is a bonafide sensation.
With celebrity connections including the Kardashian-West household, JoJo is a household name for many, though that name is now being slowly tarnished by the asbestos-tinged scandal.
An alumni of hit reality series Dance Mom’s, Siwa’s makeup line was aimed at young teens and has obviously raised consternation from parents who bought into the pink paradise image.
The YouTuber has also uploaded makeup tutorials using the products, but with comments disabled on the videos it’s impossible to ascertain the fan reaction beyond comments on Instagram and Twitter.
“R u gonna acknowledge the asbestos (a v toxic chemical) in your makeup or nah... (sic)’” one fan wrote on an unrelated Instagram photo.
“I know she dresses like a baby, but she’s old enough to do research and look at the products and companies that represent her brand,” another argued.
“Sorry but she needs to address it.”
Jo Jo has still not made a comment after one week of reports, and fans are clearly growing irate.
She’s not the first YouTube star to stir up scandal, with the online world still reeling from last month’s jaw-dropping showdown between Tati Westbrook and James Charles.
