Give yourself the royal treatment and rent this castle in Upstate New York

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like royalty, Highlands Castle in Upstate New York should be your next vacation home.

The sprawling castle with an authentic stone facade is tucked away in the Adirondack Mountains. With amazing views of nature and Lake George, you’ll never want to leave this decadent property.

Highlands Castle started with a father’s promise to his son. In 1978, John Lavender told his 3-year-old that he would build him a castle. For Lavender, this was the promise of a better life.

“He grew up here and in 2010 we opened up our castle for others to enjoy,” Lavender told In The Know.

Highlands Castle’s colorful stained glass windows and medieval furniture in every room feels like you’ve been transported to another era. But the home’s Royal Bedroom is really what’s fit for a king and queen. The couple’s room includes a lake view, tin ceiling, hardwood floors and an elegant bathroom.

Meanwhile, the King’s Suite is a massive space that sleeps six, has a sitting room and two outdoor terraces. Guest will want to head over to the Great Hall where Lavender installed 21 windows for the perfect view of Lake George.

“I had a guest tell me that Highlands Castle is where serenity meets majesty,” Lavender told In The Know. “I think that’s a good description.”
