He’s the 10-year-old star of the hit comedy series Young Sheldon, but while Iain Armitage’s show is set in the late 80s, it’s an era he still finds surprising.

The young actor, who is currently in Australia with his co-stars to attend the 2019 TV Week Logie Awards on the Gold Coast, has already starred alongside a host of Hollywood heavyweights like Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep.

Sitting down with Yahoo Lifestyle this week, Iain says he has learned so much from everyone he has worked with.

“They really raise you to their level acting-wise and they make you feel very good,” he tells us. “It’s been wonderful working with people like that.”

Funnily enough though, while he works with many of them now, Iain was surprised when we showed him those same stars as they were back in the 80s.

Iain is well known for his role as a young Sheldon Cooper on the American comedy series that is a prequel show to The Big Bang Theory. But he also stars alongside our very own Nicole Kidman in the hit HBO show Big Little Lies.

But when we show him one of Nicole’s 80s glamour shots, he barely recognises the Aussie actress.

“Oh I have no idea, maybe Cyndi Lauper,” he says, when we ask him to identify the red-headed star. So we gave him a hint that he had worked with her.

“That’s not Nicole Kidman? Oh my goodness. Yeah what a transformation,” he laughs.

See what he thought of some of his other co-star’s 80s looks in the video above.

All in the family

In the newest season of Big Little Lies, Iain has already appeared alongside Nicole’s daughters.

“I played with them a lot in the first season and now in the second season I got to play with them a lot as well,” he says.

“We’ve been having some play dates, they’re very fun.”

He also continued to gush about Nicole, saying how “wonderful she is” and how he “wishes” he had more scenes with her.

Taking the mantel from the Big Bang Theory

But right now the star’s focus is on taking up the mantel from The Big Bang Theory, which has its final episodes ever airing in Australia over the next few weeks.

“You don’t really feel the pressure when you’re on set filming,” Iain says.

“They’re entirely different journeys that old Sheldon and young Sheldon have. But I do feel a responsibility to get the show to be pretty good.”

Iain has loved his time on the Young Sheldon set, especially as an only child, getting to play a character that has two siblings 16-year-old Montana Jordan (George Jnr) and 11-year-old Raegan Revord (Missy).

“It’s kind of crazy because me and Raegan have that twin mind reading thing going [in real life] and we say stuff at the same time a lot.

He also revealed that the cast all have cute nicknames for each other on set, with him dubbed ‘magpie’, for his love of shiny objects.

Visiting for the Logies

Iain and his Young Sheldon co-stars, including Zoe Perry (his patient on-screen mum, Mary) and Lance Barber (his loveable dad George), will walk the red carpet at this year’s Logie Awards.

And while he isn’t in the running for a Gold Logie himself, Iain says if he were able to win the top gong he would have “a lot of people to thank”.
