The popularisation of streaming has convenience at its centre, with an unmatched ability for audiences to watch whatever, whenever they want.

Now, this has been taken up a notch with the ability to completely control Netflix, Stan or YouTube by using just one thing, your voice.

Being the tech addict that I am, I decided to test the upgrade out myself, ahead of the release of the Sony X9500G television, which will facilitates the new feature in the remote and the TV itself.

Here, I’ve put together the pros and cons you need to know ahead of your next binge-watching session.

Pros:

Thanks to Google Assistant and the TV’s Android functionality, viewers can receive an immediate response to literally any ‘flix-related request.

Want to know the top rated true crime series? Sure thing. Can’t remember what episode you’re up to on your fave comedy show? Just ask.

The new feature takes the relaxation-focused practice of streaming to a new level and it feels oddly futuristic.

Cons:

However, like many cutting-edge electronics which have suddenly become the norm, viewers should be savvy as to when and how it’s switched on.

Although the feature has to be manually turned on in the TV’s Google feature, it’s undoubtedly easy to forget to switch off again.

This could result in the voice control keeping its ability to listen in, even when it’s not being used.

However, like the regular Google Assistant, the product claims it is only listening - not recording - until the command ‘Hey Google’ is spoken.

The verdict:

Netflix and - very - chilled.

My shameless marathon of royal family documentaries was lightyears more user-friendly than the usual sessions watched on my near-death laptop.

What’s more, this isn’t the first time viewers’ Netflix-ing has been enhanced by tech-based updates.

Last year, a list of secret Netflix keyboard shortcuts was revealed, providing the best ways to watch your favourite shows without even needing a mouse.
