Yorgos Zois’ Fantasy-Drama ‘Arcadia’ Debuts Trailer Ahead of Berlinale Premiere, Beta Cinema Selling (EXCLUSIVE)
The trailer has debuted for Yorgos Zois’ fantasy-drama “Arcadia,” which has its world premiere in the Encounters section of the Berlin Film Festival. Beta Cinema will be selling the film at the European Film Market.
The film centers on neurologist Katerina and Yannis, a former doctor, who are heading off to a deserted seaside resort. Silence descends on the car as they travel across dunes in a windy autumn, matching the less-than-pleasant occasion: Yannis has been called to identify the victim of a tragic accident at the hospital of the small town.

When the local policeman informs them that the victim’s vehicle had plunged over the parapet of a stone bridge and leads them to the morgue, Katerina sees her worst suspicions confirmed.
Together with Yannis, but also on her own nightly excursions to a mysterious, rustic beach bar called Arcadia, they begin to put the pieces of the puzzle together, revealing a haunting story of love, loss, acceptance and letting go.
The script was written by Konstantina Kotzamani and Zois. Yannis is played by Vangelis Mourikis and Katerina by Angeliki Papoulia. The producers are Antigoni Rota, Maria Drandaki and Stelios Cotionis. The co-producer is Veselka Kiryakova. The film is produced by Foss Productions and Homemade Films, and co-produced by Red Carpet.
Zois’ debut short “Casus Belli” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2010. His second short, “Out of Frame,” premiered at Venice in 2012 and won the European Film Academy award for best European short. His first feature film “Interruption” made its world premiere at Venice in 2015. His third short, “Eighth Continent,” premiered at Venice in 2017, while his short “Third Kind” premiered in Critic’s Week in Cannes in 2018.
In a statement, the producers said: “When Yorgos told us that he wanted to make a love story where love and loss would coexist between real and imaginary worlds, we immediately realized that this film was a natural sequel to his work and wanted to support it.”
Tassilo Hallbauer, head of sales and acquisitions at Beta Cinema, stated: “We are proud to have found a true gem with ‘Arcadia.’ It is a beautiful, magical tale with a profound emotional impact and shows the unique handwriting of the extremely talented Yorgos Zios. Its universal topic will speak to audiences all over the world.”
