X-rated Aldi item leaves Aussies in stitches: 'Doing this on purpose'

A new Special Buy is raising eyebrows among shoppers.

An Aldi Special Buy item set to go on sale on February 25 is already making waves after an amused shopper shared the eyebrow-raising find to Facebook. A snap of the product in question – a sculpting facial roller set that's featured on page 16 of the supermarket's latest catalogue – was posted in a Facebook group for Aldi enthusiasts with the comment: "I swear they are doing this on purpose".

The ad, which shows a purple-handled facial roller with two vibrating balls on the end, is captioned: "Sonic vibrations help to relieve tension as well as sculpt the face and body" – leaving many members of the Facebook group in stitches.

The post has received over 1,200 likes and 200 comments since it was shared on Valentine's Day, with many poking fun at the featured item. "Oh it'll relieve tensions alright," one of the group members commented, while another joked: "Do they come with Vaseline?" A third wrote, "There's going to be a line-up of ladies at the door when this goes on sale."

'Well played'

Some members of the group agreed that the product was intentionally included in the catalogue as a marketing ploy, based on similar items featured in previous brochures. "I've used many designs of sculpting equipment in my 18 years of beauty therapy. They're 100% doing it on purpose. Subliminal sex messages sells. It got you lot talking about it," one shopper shared candidly. "Well played, Aldi... well played," added another Aldi fan.

The supermarket giant caused a similar stir last December with a massager that looked to many like a sex toy. At the time, an Aldi spokesperson offered some advice for buyers, telling Yahoo Lifestyle, "We strongly encourage customers to use products as per their recommended instructions on packaging. However, ultimately what people do in the privacy of their own homes is their business."

Aldi's sculpting facial roller set, which also comes in pink, will be on sale for $19.99 and we have a feeling itm will sell out as soon as it hits the shelves.
