Yahoo Lifestyle Woolworths shopper reveals secret tip for scoring reduced items
A spectacular theory has emerged suggesting Woolworths stores have a secret section where reduced items are displayed.
One shopper, based in NSW, revealed how she noticed the ongoing trend at her local store and had managed to save a huge chunk of money on her groceries.
In a post to a Facebook group this week, the customer boasted about an impressive haul she picked up for the bargain price of $9.90.
For less than $10, she purchased two bags of Cherry Ripe chocolates for 35 cents, sour candy for 80 cents, peanut butter for $1.89, body wash for $2.80, flavoured milk for 2.79, and chocolate for 93 cents.
She explained the secret to her success was a special section where “slightly damaged” items or those nearing their used by date were reduced.
The shopper told members of the group that these items usually appeared in the same spot, “usually at the end face of the last aisle”.

“I love it. Always a few bargains there,” she wrote.

There seemed to be others familiar with the same Woolworths feature, with one leaving a comment to say that it was her “favourite part of Woolies” and congratulating her on the “great score”.
Another shopper claimed she swiped some bargain Cherry Ripes too, and had been stashing them away in a secret section of her fridge.
A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed that products were often reduced in store instead of being thrown out.
“We use markdowns from time to time to minimise food and product waste,” they told Yahoo News Australia.
“The availability of markdowns will vary from day to day, and store to store, based on stock levels and demand.”
