The Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet ranked number one on the list of five worst diets of 2012. This popular four-phase diet starts off with a ‘no carb/protein only’ approach that promotes rapid weight loss. It's said to be a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge's mother and many other celebrities like J Lo and Giselle Bundchen. Cynics of the diet claim it can cause bad breath, constipation and lack of energy plus more serious health risks like cardiovascular disease.

Seven diets you should never try

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Common short-term problems with fad diets include constipation, bad breath and fatigue, and longer term, some fad diets can be harm to heart health. Think of these diets as the seven deadly sins - avoid at all cost!

    Diets do not work. Firstly find out why you are fat. If it's excess food then eat moderately and do not gluttonise. However, there are people who cannot lose weight desptie a healthy diet and this is usually due to some medical problem, i.e. hormonal imbalance or disease. Have your hormone profile checked, and have a Dr./endocrinolgist check your thyroid, adrenals, liver, etc. etc. all aspects that need to be in working order to burn fat. Fad diets may work in the short term but usually they are not sustainable and once you go off them then you gain back what you lost plus more. Then depression sets in. Margo

    I have been on this diet twice. It does rapidly shift weight. However I was exhausted during it and gained more rebound weight as I have found it unsustainable long term.

    I find it hard to be committed to diets, so I just eat healthy foods, like plenty of fresh vegys and fruit, milk, good lean meat, cut down on the junk food and regular exercise and my weight is in control, particularly after spending 3 hours doing lawn mowing, that certainly helps to take off the weight.

    i have been on the dukan diet & its the only diet i have actually stuck to!!! after 2 years of being on it ive lost over 40kg and now i just want to maintain my weight so i exercise and still use some of the reciepes!!

    I've been doing the Dukan diet for almost seven days and I've lost 3.7kg already. Attack phase just proteins and oat brand that I added to my yoghurt. The first 3 days it was a bit hard but now I don't have any problem. Go for a walk at least 30 minutes every day is a must. I think every thing is good so far so I will keep going. I started to do this diet because my daughter recommended it to me and after seeing the results in her I decided to have a goal. I would recommend to read the book because the explanation the why proteins, low fat and low carbohydrates work.
