Still, if you want it to be a full-blown surprise, the first thing you've got to figure out is their engagement ring size. Reddit user @Best_Expression_1860 recently asked for ways to get a partner's ring size without them knowing. Here are the most helpful and hilarious responses:

1."My husband borrowed my grandmother's ring that I wore on my right-hand ring finger and used a digital caliper to measure the size. He did this all within an hour, and I had no idea."
2."I surreptitiously slipped one of her rings on my pinky and noted how far down it fit, and then replaced it. At the jeweler, I tested my pinky to find the match. It does require having access to a ring that she wears on [her] right finger. In my case, [it was] the ring finger on her right hand. Thankfully, her right ring finger is the same size as her left."
