Woman's sneaky Aldi mayo trick on husband goes viral: 'Genius!'

A TikToker has captured the world’s attention after revealing she has been tricking her husband into eating Aldi mayonnaise for almost a decade.

The woman uploaded the 15-second video to her TikTok channel @mayoswindler (formerly @sweetchels7) earlier this month, where it quickly earned over three million views.

“So my husband claims that he only eats Hellmann’s mayonnaise and he will not settle for the off-brand,” she says.

“But little does he know that he’s been eating Aldi mayonnaise for the last eight years.”

The video footage shows the woman emptying a jar of Aldi brand Burman’s mayonnaise into an empty Hellmann’s brand jar.

Explaining how she’s gotten away with it for this long, the woman said: “I will occasionally buy a Hellmann’s one in case he checks the expiration date.”

TikTok reacts to mayonnaise saga

Over 260,000 TikTok users have liked the woman’s video thus far, with thousands adding comments labelling the switch as “genius.”

“First fight we had I’d be like ‘AND you’ve been eating Aldi mayo!’,” one TikToker commented.

“If he ever finds out he will say, ‘I knew it tasted different!’ Sir? 8 years and no complaints?” wrote another.

In a follow-up video, the TikToker posted footage of her revealing the mayo-switch secret to her husband, where she jokes that she’s “waiting for divorce papers.”

Her husband appears to take the news well in the uploaded video, where he smirks upon learning of his wife’s eight-year mayo switch deception.

In response to user comments that she should “just spend the extra few dollars and buy Hellmann’s,” the woman set up a Venmo account in jest to “help save [her] marriage.” Surprisingly, she has received several donations.

TikTokers reveal their own ‘switch’ pranks

It seems the American woman isn’t the only one tricking her husband, as the cheeky video has inspired TikTok users to post their own switch pranks in the comments.

“My husband doesn’t like microwaved baked potatoes so I nuke them and wrap them in foil and he has no idea,” one TikTok user commented.

“I did this when my husband refused to stop drinking bottled water. I kept refilling them with Brita,” said another.

“My Mom did that with ‘lite’ salt after my Dad’s heart attack,” wrote a third.

“I have been doing this with my husband but with salsa. He wants Pace Picante and little does he know he’s been eating Aldi’s,” added another.

“My husband only drinks Folger's coffee. I buy Maxwell House because it's cheaper and pour it in the Folger's can,” wrote a fifth.

Another TikTok user commented that they have been able to get their child to try different foods by adding a Paw Patrol sticker to the label, and telling them it’s the “Paw Patrol version.”
