A Woman's Parents Gift Her a One-of-a-Kind Barbie for Her Birthday, and 1 Detail About the Surprise Completely Moves Her to Tears

TikTok creator Berenice Castro, who posts under the name Benulus, went viral when she posted the loving present

It’s a truly one-of-a-kind gift.

Fashion creator Berenice Castro — who posts online under the name Benulus — shared in a now-viral TikTok that her parents and sister surprised her with a totally unique gift: a Barbie doll that they personally customized to look like her.

In the video, Castro, 28, receives the Barbie doll — "an early birthday present for your 28th [birthday]" — from her mom and is overwhelmed. The doll’s outfit is a recreation of an outfit she posted online back in June. Castro wrote that she “never imagined this.”

Her parents filmed some of their process of customizing the doll. They cut the doll’s feet to make the boots fit, and her mom used her sewing machine to intricately recreate every piece of her outfit. The outfit itself involved leopard print tights, a leopard print crop top, a sheer brown beaded dress, a brown corset, layers of chunky necklaces and bracelets, big pearl earrings and a matching brown hat. Castro finished the original look with sunglasses and a leopard purse, and the doll had its own matching set, too.

“My mom never had a Barbie growing up,” Castro wrote in the video. “But that was never the case for her daughters.” Her mom hand-sewed beads onto the dress while her little sister carefully painted a replica of her turquoise eye makeup and her dad used tweezers to create custom Barbie-sized jewelry and attach it to the doll.

“She even made the exact same corset,” Castro wrote over images of the tiny, lace-up bodice her mom created.

When Castro received the doll, she immediately started crying and noted, “She’s so beautiful.” She included a video of the original outfit to show what an amazing recreation her parents had created.

Castro hugged her mom and wrote over the video, “[I] started crying even harder when she showed me that SHE had made it with her own hands. I want to think that she healed part of her inner child with this.” She and her mom posed together with the doll, both of them grinning

“I am a Barbie collector,” Castro wrote. “Nothing will ever be more valuable than this.”

So far, according to TikTok, the video of Castro’s one-of-a-kind present has received almost 3 million views and 650 thousand likes.

Castro also posted a follow-up video, where she showed all the details of her original outfit and how her family recreated each one on the doll.

Benulus, who describes herself as a “NYC Fashion Maximalist,” has over a million TikTok followers who follow all her eccentric creations. Speaking to TikTok in 2022 for their creator spotlight series, she described her style as “Bold, maximalist, and free of judgment."

"I grew up afraid of what people thought about me," she said. "When I went to college I decided to be my true self, which is reflected in my style. Be yourself — if you like to be looked at, make bold fashion choices.”
