Woman slammed for shaming boyfriend's choice of ring before he's even proposed

This is the engagement ring story that has gone viral across the globe.

It’s one thing to find the ring your boyfriend’s going to propose with and share it online before he gets down on one knee, but to shame his choice of bling in the process is something else.

A woman is being slammed online after she complained about the quality of the ring she believes her partner was going to give her when asking for her hand in marriage.

“Ewwwww. Self shame Friday here I come. Found this in the BF’s nightstand. Not a fan,” she wrote in a Facebook group next to the photo of the sparkly rock.

“Please roast and then tell me how to tactfully say no you need to go get something different,” she added.

Was the ring even that bad?

It didn’t take long for the shocking post to make its way to Reddit, where the woman was roasted for sharing and shaming the ring, which they personally believed was quite an appealing piece of jewellery.

I am 24, have a reasonable income, and single. I personally think that is a beautiful ring. Am I wrong, or does this person watch way too f**king much reality TV?” one person wrote.

I’m wearing a ring that looks almost exactly like this. I don’t think I even looked at it when I said yes, I was so excited about the person giving It to me. It still makes me happy 10 years later, so I think it’s a fine ring,” penned another.

Some believed if the woman didn’t like the ring that much, she should just say ‘no’ and the boyfriend will actually ‘dodge a bullet’.

The unidentified woman also shared a second photo of the ring with the caption ‘basic AF’.

Honestly, her saying no would be the best thing to happen to the person who’s planning to propose,” said one commenter.

She should just say no and set the poor guy free rather than be saddled with her…” added another.

Facebook group for shaming rings

The woman’s post was originally shared on a Facebook group dedicated to shaming rings, and some critics took the opportunity to condemn the entire concept itself.

If I’m reading this correctly, there is a whole group for ring shaming? Jesus, what miserable people,” wrote one person.

There were some who came to the woman’s defence though.

The girl posted this in a group about ring shaming and everyone is judging her for posting it… They literally have a designated day for self shaming your ring. There are no right answers here,” read one comment.

The ‘proposal’

Needless to say, this one post has got many people very fired up, and with the passion comes a vested interest in what will happen next.

Waiting for the update when we find out it’s just his grandmother’s or something and he has no intention of proposing,” wrote one Reddit user.

Now that would be a plot twist.
