Man dies in fireball after car smash in Enfield

A man died in a fireball after his car crashed in north London on Thursday night.

Police were called to reports of a vehicle engulfed in flames following a traffic collision about 10pm on the A110 Lea Valley Road, Enfield. He is believed to have collided with street furniture and a tree.

Officers, paramedics and firefighters attended the scene at the junction with Sewardstone Road.

London Fire Brigade put out the blaze and the body of a man, whose age is not known, was recovered.

The Metropolitan Police said: “One male occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify him and inform next of kin.”

Road closures have been lifted from Lea Valley Road back to Mollison Avenue and enquiries continue into the circumstances.

London Ambulance Service said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car and members of our hazardous area response team. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”

LFB said: “Sadly, a person has died following a vehicle fire on Lea Valley Road.

“A vehicle caught alight after colliding with street furniture and a tree. A person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Brigade was called at 10pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 11.15pm. “Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Enfield and Chingford fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
