William and Harry 'would trade everything to get Princess Diana back'

Mental health is one of the young royals’ primary focuses within their charity work, with Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry launching their Heads Together campaign in 2017 to tackle stigma and to encourage people to speak about their own mental health.

And Historian Kate Williams explained how the campaign “broke taboos” and allowed William and Harry to be more open and talk about their personal experiences.

Speaking on Yahoo UK’s The Royal Box, she added: “But also we heard the royals talk about what they had suffered, and as you say they live in a palace, it’s a gilded cage, they want for nothing, but still they made it clear that they too can suffer a lot of mental pain.

“And when you say they want to nothing, we’re talking about materialism there, what they want is a mother, and that’s something that was taken away.”

Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris on 31 August 1997 – when William and Harry were aged just 15 and 12. And CNN royal contributor Victoria Arbiter says: “They would trade it all to have her back.”

During a trip to Bristol at the beginning of February, Prince Harry cleared the room to speak to a young boy who had lost a parent and discussed his experience with grief.

So it’s no surprise mental health continues to be a big focus for the Cambridges and the Sussexes, with Kate attending The Royal Foundation’s ‘Mental Health in Education’ conference.
