A Reddit user has broken hearts after sharing a photo of a bunch of flowers, a teddy bear and a card that had all been left discarded by the side of a building.

"Felt bad seeing it," they captioned the photo which was clearly intended for a romantic partner with the card reading, "You are the most sense my life has ever made," and the flowers featuring love heart wrapping paper.

"That's a mystery and a tragedy bound up in a single photo," one user commented.

"Check around for the ring!" another joked.

"Honestly, my first thought was that the card said, 'Sorry I cheated on you, please take me back,'" someone else added.

"Mine too. Something that made the recipient get rid of the gifts immediately," another agreed

Some questioned why the poster hadn't just read inside the card given it was "litter" by this point.

"Not my place to pry," the poster wrote, with another responding, "It's not even prying though, it's litter on the ground, pick it up inspect it, and see if you can figure out the little mystery and then throw it out. Probably took more time to post it on Reddit for karma."

Others shared their own stories of people being stood up and leaving flowers.

"One time, we were getting ready to have a family birthday party at a park," one user wrote. "While we were setting up, some random guy came up with a vase of flowers and asked if we wanted to have them for the table. He had a blind date that never showed up, and he didn't want the flowers to go to waste. It's been 4 years, and I STILL feel bad for him...."

"I received flowers from a guy friend for a birthday one year," another shared.

"They were a little droopy, but it was a nice gesture so I thanked him. He must have felt guilty and he immediate confessed he found them on the side of the road and didn't want them to go to waste. I felt weird keeping them because they weren't intended for me."

"I bought flowers for my girlfriend of 3 years at the time," someone else wrote. "Went to her new work to surprise her. She surprised with me with 'this isn't working out' (I wanna sleep with the hottest guy working here)'.

"On my long walk home I saw a chick walking to work. I asked her if she would like the flowers I bought, she looked freaked out until I explained someone I bought them for didnt want them and I didn't want them to go to waste. She then took them from me, maybe out of pity or they were nice flowers, who knows but it made her smile. That's all that mattered."
