Why Isn't 'The Masked Singer' On Tonight?
For the second time this season, The Masked Singer will not be appearing on its typical Wednesday night slot. However, unlike previous instances where the star-filled singing show has missed a week, you won't have to wait very long for a new episode of the Fox series.

That's because The Masked Singer has opted not to air a new episode on the eve of Thanksgiving, but on the day itself! Episode 9 of Season 12 is planning to air on Thursday night this week instead of Wednesday, still in its same time slot of 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. The Turkey Day action will see the final three competitors of Group C, Royal Knight, Sherlock Hound, and Strawbery Shortcake, compete for one last spot in the semifinals. But to do so, they'll have to not only give the performance of their lives, in a Thanksgiving-themed night inspired by the Peanuts, but survive an epic "Battle Royale" against their opponents.
The choice to air a new episode of television on Thanksgiving may seem like a recipe for disaster to some. The November holiday is, of course, one of the biggest of the year, and there's a chance some fans will be too busy eating or getting together with friends and loved ones to turn on the TV at 8:00. Many scripted shows that typically air on Thursdays have opted to skip a week. Even some series that air Wednesday nights, like The Challenge, took the week off, though it should be noted others like Survivor have steered into the pre-Thanksgiving scheduling.

It should be noted, though, that perhaps the family aspect of Thanksgiving is something The Masked Singer is banking on for success. The Emmy-winning series has been hailed through its twelve seasons as great for families to watch together. Indeed, many of the celebrities themselves who have appeared on the show have said they went on to give their children or grandchildren a chance to see them perform (albeit in disguise and inside an over-the-top costume). It's easy to imagine that, though Fox may be losing single viewers in airing on Thanksgiving night, they're hoping to gain households, as families settle in to digest their dinners while guessing along with the judges at which star will be unmasked next.
Following this Thursday's episode, The Masked Singer Season 12 will return to its usual slot on Wednesday nights for the final three episodes of the season.
